About In the Mix Ensemble
From 2010 - 2017, the rotating members of In the Mix experimented with ensemble-generated work. We began with what bothered us, what kept us up at nights. By mashing music, movement and ideas together, we aimed to devise vital, unexpected work. Our model of working shifted with the needs and passions of our members. We began as a group of four, meeting weekly and playing with impulses. But we were busy people–busy both with raising children and raising ourselves–and so we morphed into a core group of three that collaborated with kindred artists to rehearse and develop our programs. After intensely concentrated rehearsal periods we faced our fears head-on and invited audiences into our spaces.
At our best, we transcended.
Like hope, we floated.
