I strive to cultivate space for the humanity of everyone who participates in the classrooms I design. We form a community that includes the artists whose work we explore, the writers whose articles we read, the students who register for the course, and me. Together, we summon our courage to wrestle with our complexities, in all our brilliance and glorious imperfections.

In some of the classes I teach, I ask students to participate in asynchronous conversations on Perusall. Because some of them fear the social dynamics of online discussion environments, I developed this document to help them work together to create a community that suits their individual and collective participation styles.
